Hand-engraved qalamzani brass cup and saucer, made in Lahore

Pure Brass Qalamzani Cup & Saucer Set

From $34.00

Kahwa poured into engraved brass and passed to a guest by hand — tea here has always been half ceremony. This cup and saucer is made for that. Each is made in Lahore, the qalamzani chisel-work covering both cup and saucer, the gold of the brass warming whatever's poured into...

The Craft

Hand-Hammering

Raised from a flat sheet under thousands of hammer blows, the dimpled surface a record of the making.

Cutwork

Openwork lace pierced clean through the metal by hand with a fine needle.

Engraving / Qalamzani

Cut into the metal line by line with a fine steel chisel, the qalam.

Used in this piece

Naqsheen

Floral and geometric patterns chased into the surface freehand by the naqash.

Sand Casting

Molten brass poured into a sand mould packed by hand, then broken open to free the piece.

A Note from Amara
Tea here was always half ceremony — kahwa poured into engraved brass and passed by hand. The qalamzani chisel-work covers both cup and saucer, done by hand in Lahore, and the brass warms whatever you pour in. Collect a few and the tea tray becomes a thing in itself.
